My child is ready for preschool – what should I do next?

Program Eligibility:

  • Children must be at least three years of age but not yet five on or before September 1st of the current school year.
  • Families must reside within District 299 boundaries – the City of Chicago.

Program Information:

  • Children usually attend a preschool program at their neighborhood school – No busing is available. 
  • Half-day and full-day programs are offered; the majority of programs are half-day.
  • Most programs are grant funded and have specific eligibility criteria determined by the funding agency, related to: income, at-risk factors, and residence in specific areas.
  • Most programs give priority for enrollment to four-year-olds (age four on or before September 1st of the current school year).
  • Tuition-Based Preschool (TBP) is not grant funded, but requires tuition payments for all children attending the program.

Documents Needed at Registration – Prior to Attendance:

  • Child’s birth certificate
  • Complete physical exam with required lab work 
  • Up-to-date immunization record (shot card)
