Beyond the Classroom

Computer Training

The Office of Early Childhood Education (OECE) is preparing teachers, administrators and parents for the 21st century through programs at state of the art computer training labs. Recognizing the need for technical training that goes beyond the one-day workshop, five computer training labs were established.

Computer technology plays an increasingly important role in school curricula, instructional and administrative practices. There are various different programs currently offered (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Print Master, Computer Basics, Internet, Parent PreGED, and Windows) for professional development. Classes are ongoing throughout the year and range from beginners to advanced. Classes are geared to help staff become more productive and efficient in performing their jobs and developing curriculum materials. Early childhood parents are elated to have an opportunity to receive training and develop skills that will empower them to write résumés in pursuit of job opportunities and skills as well as the ability to assist their school age child with technical support.
